The Process (part 2)
Even my photographer was helping! She helped ‘revamp’ the wardrobe. She didn’t just take amazing pictures, she’s good with the paintbrush too! A note to all who want to keep their precious furniture but hate the colour, here’s a little D.I.Y project- 1) Remove doors/ handles and drawers if there’s any.2) Clean surfaces where you want to paint.3) Prime the surface with a primer (you can get a can from some Self-Fix stores and paint shops. Of course, before you go to the counter to pay, read the label on the can first! Primer is suitable for some surfaces only). 4) Let the primer dry. I feel 2 coats is good. 5) Paint your furniture with your choice of paint. In this case I used 2 coats of oil based paint in mahogany. ( You can spray paint it too. Just do it out of the house.) It takes at least 8 hours for the paint to dry! 6) Change the door handles or revamp it also like what we did. Tip: Be very patient when dealing with oil based paint and use a new and cheap paintbrush. You can just throw it away later when you are done.
Ta-daa! With the addition of some spotlights above the wardrobe, Syaiful won’t have to grope in the dark for his clothes! I thought the back of the wardrobe look ‘incomplete’ so I made it into a blackboard where Syaiful can scribble some notes when he’s inspired. D.I.Y project- You can paint a wall with a blackboard paint if you want to, but here I used the back of the wardrobe. 1) Get some thin boards (I got them from Art Friend. Please measure the size that you want before you set out!) 2) Cut to measure. 3) Nail it to the back of the wardrobe, if you can. If not, too bad. 4) Blackboard-paint it! You might need a few layers of paint. I used a blackboard paint in green. Retro or what… (actually the black one was sold out!) 5) Start doodling!
